I want to share with you one of the essential tools I use as a full-time blogger. Grammarly is, without doubt, the best grammar checker plugin I have ever used.
As a blogger, one of my main tasks every day is writing new content. I probably spend an average of three to four hours a day just researching and typing new articles.
Here is my usual process when creating a new blog post:
- Do keyword research.
- Do competitors analysis.
- Create the structure of the blog post.
- Write the first draft.
- Editing & corrections.
- Adding images and links.
- Sharing it.
It might sound like a burden at first, but if you are also a blogger, then you realize that you quickly get used to it and even enjoy it.
Do you know which part always took me the longest time to complete?
That’s right. The editing!
It does not matter if you are an experienced writer, we are humans, and it is perfectly reasonable to make a mistake here and there.
Even famous and published writers have editors to proofread their writing and make sure everything is in its place.
I know that my writing is not the best in the world and that dozens of thousands of people would probably do it better than me.
But as a content creator and a blogger. There is a certain quality standard that I like to meet.
To make things worse, I am a bit of a perfectionist since I can remember. If I weren’t controlling that part of me through meditation, I would have never clicked any Publish button in my life.
It could lose entire days editing content because every time I read it, I would find something to fix or to change.
I Needed A Grammar Checker Tool
You probably are already familiar with this type of software. Microsoft Word has an integrated Spelling and Grammar checker, for example.
That is what I used at first; I used to write my articles on a Word document, edit them, and then copy and paste them on my WordPress text editor.
It worked, but it was not what I really needed for many reasons:
- Microsoft Word’s edition or formating tools were not useful to me, I just wanted a grammar check as I was publishing the content on WordPress later.
- Copying and Pasting the text would sometimes mess up the format, and I had to spend extra time fixing it.
- I needed to have the software open to work, taking extra resources from my computer.
- I just wanted a grammar checker I could use anywhere without having to switch apps.
That’s When I Found Grammarly
My favorite part of Grammarly is that it is a plugin integrated with your Internet browser.
That means that it is checking your grammar in real-time as you type inside your browser.
It became a great help sharing content on social media, writing emails and, of course, creating new articles.
I could not believe how fast I was able to write and edit content now. Everything without having to switch from one app to the other.
My productivity spiked after the first week using this grammar plugin. I had a lot of free time thanks to the quick editing.
Also, I had more energy during the day because I no longer had to spend hours doing something I did not actually enjoyed.
It quickly became one of my favorite blog writing tools.
I really made a lot of progress and found a more efficient way to work.
Should You Use Grammarly?
At first, I was going to say that Grammarly is the perfect tool if you are a student, a blogger, or a writer.
But the truth is that this grammar checker is just amazing for everybody. If you type words on your keyboard, this grammar checker is perfect for you.
You have to know that I’m not recommending you this grammar checker plugin lightly.
According to my Grammarly stats, I have created more than 65,000 words of content in the past 14 weeks.
That is more than 98% of Grammarly users on the platform.
You get these analytics stats automatically in your email. Honestly, I did not pay too much attention to it, but it is a great motivator to see that I have become more and more productive every week.
Another feature I really like is that it shows you short and clear explanations for the suggested corrections.
I consider them micro-grammar lessons that help me to become a better writer.
What Else Can You Do With Grammarly?
Everything I have mentioned so far is available within the free version of Grammarly. All you need to do to use it is to go to grammarly.com, register, and install your plugin.
They also have a native app for Windows and macOS. I don’t really use it for blogging because I prefer to work directly from my browser.
But it is still a pretty great distraction-free word processor I wish I had when I was a student.
Review Your Punctuation and Structure
The premium version also allows you to check for punctuation mistakes and sentence structure.
This is not essential for blogging as you need to format your content to make it look more appealing to your readers.
But it is a MUST for students, research papers, or writers.
Grow Your Vocabulary
What I really from premium are the vocabulary enhancement suggestions. (Goodbye thesaurus tab!)
All you need to do is to double-click a word, and you instantly get different synonyms you can pick to replace it.
Check Your Writing Style
It also offers a writing style checker, but I have not noticed any significant suggestion from this feature.
It could be because I have been blogging for many years, and I already know my audience but I can’t tell you for sure.
Find Duplicate Content
Another feature I have not mentioned is the Plagiarism detector.
It compares your content with their database of 16 billion web pages to see if your content appears somewhere else on the Internet.
As I personally type all of my content, I usually get this message:
But I find this tool pretty great to quickly check guest posts other bloggers send to you.
As I said before if you type on a computer, then you should use Grammarly.
It easily integrates with your browser, so you won’t even notice it, and you’ll improve your writing automatically.
For me, simple is always better.
